Nozzle Filling Compound (NFC) - Steel Melt Industries

Nozzle Filling Compound (NFC)

Nozzle Filling Compound (NFC) is a specialised granular refractory material used in ladle or tundish sliding gates. It prevents skulling, sintering, and nozzle blockage — ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted, and consistent flow of molten metal during continuous casting operations. Available in Silica, Mixed Refractory, Chromite, and Zircon bases for different temperatures and steel grades.

Available Bases

Choose the Right NFC Base

NFC Silica Based
Silica Based

NFC – Silica

The most common and economical compound, offering reliable free-opening performance for ladles with standard operating temperatures up to 1650 °C.

Best for: Standard ladles, economical
NFC Mixed Refractory
Mixed Refractory

NFC – Mixed

A customised blend engineered to specific plant practices, balancing cost, optimal flowability, and temperature resistance for varied operational requirements.

Best for: Custom plant practices
NFC Chromite Based
Chromite Based

NFC – Chromite

High-density compound for higher-temperature applications, recommended for mild steel. Excellent sintering resistance ensures a high free-opening rate under intense heat.

Best for: High temp, mild steel
NFC Zircon Based
Zircon Based

NFC – Zircon

A premium, high-refractory formulation for secondary steelmaking with long holding times. Withstands extreme heat and extended molten-metal exposure without fusing.

Best for: Ladle metallurgy, long holds
